New Topologies Presents Irreversible Quartet

Hunter College Jazz is excited to host the D.C.-based creative music ensemble, Irreversible Quartet, as part of the music series, New Topologies, in Lang Recital Hall on Friday, Sep. 28th, at 7pm. IRREVERSIBLE QUARTET is the instrumental formation of Irreversible Entanglements, the liberation jazz + poetry band whose 2017 debut recording rocked the year ends lists of Wire Magazine, NPR, The Quietus, Stereogum and a host of others. Irreversible Quartet, featuring Keir Neuringer on saxophone, Aquiles Navarro on trumpet, Luke Stewart on bass, and Tcheser Holmes on drums, reps scenes in Philadelphia, New York, and DC. Tapping into key legacies in creative Black music in the US, their work has been described as “a kinetic bubbling over of collective political and spiritual energy” (Liz Pelly, Shadowproof). They bring an intensity and determination honed by a string of milestones for their main project, Irreversible Entanglements (featuring poet/musician Camae Ayewa, best known from her solo project Moor Mother) — recent performances at the Pitchfork, Moers, Vision, BRDCST, Rewire, Suoni per il Popolo, and Northside Festivals, as well as at venues diverse as Cafe Oto in London, the Kennedy Center and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art in DC, the AMC Empire movie theater in Times Square, and Baltimore’s Red Room.
